Film & TV

Ground cover, plant, props and practical support for productions.

Hinch Plant has specialised in Film & TV ground cover, set dressing, plant, construction, excavation, props and practical production support for over 30 years.

From our first job on George Eliot’s Middlemarch in 1993, we’ve worked on productions across the UK and into Europe, helping set designers, art departments and location teams bring their ideas, storyboards and concept art to life.

Whether you need to transform a modern location, recreate a period setting, or build something completely from scratch, we can help. After more than three decades in Film & TV, we have the experience, machinery and contacts to make it happen.

Ground Cover

Ground cover is our bread and butter. We have provided specialist ground cover for productions of all sizes, across all kinds of locations. Wood mulch, gravel, sand, turf, concrete, real cobbles, replica cobbles, mud, soil and bespoke blends - you name it, we lay it. Over the years, we’ve helped create everything from smashed-up streets and bombed-out Blitz landscapes to planets from different dimensions, quaint period streets, rural tracks, farmyards, bogs and muddy fields. We work closely with set designers, art departments and location teams to get the right look for camera, while making sure the location is protected and the job is practical on the ground. Line cover is also a regular part of what we do.  Covering yellow lines, road markings and modern surfaces for productions needing a 1960s street, a period road or a completely different setting is something we do week in, week out.

Construction & Excavation

HINCH Mini Digger Burghley_9_edited.jpg

We have a full yard of machinery and experienced operators capable of building, digging, shaping and reinstating pretty much anything a production might need. For films and TV productions in the past, we have dug lakes, graves, quarries, trenches and craters. We have built roads, ramps, mounds, compounds, temporary structures, practical sets and all kinds of scenery to suit the brief. Everything we lay, pour, plant, build or dig can be temporary or permanent, depending on what the production needs. With our background in farming, plant and contracting, we understand the practical side of a site as well as the creative side of a set. That means we can help solve problems quickly and keep production moving.

Standby Support

We can be on site throughout shoot days to make sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it’s maintaining ground cover, adjusting a surface, moving materials, operating machinery, sorting access, cleaning up between takes or dealing with last-minute changes, we can provide the people and kit needed to keep things moving. Having us on standby gives the production team peace of mind that if something needs doing, there is someone on site who can get it done.

Props, Vehicles & Machinery

We can provide a wide range of props, vehicles and machinery, mainly centred around our background in farming, construction and plant. This can include modern machinery and vehicles, as well as older farming and construction equipment going back decades. We can also advise on what vehicles, machinery or props would be suitable for a particular period, location or style of production. If we don’t have exactly what you need, there’s a good chance we’ll know someone who does.

Just Ask The Question

If we don’t have what you need, or can’t do something ourselves, we will usually know someone who can. After more than 30 years in Film & TV, farming, plant and contracting, we have built a huge network of trusted people, suppliers, operators and specialists. Just ask us the question, and we’ll help find the solution. We have been known as the “yes men” of Film & TV for a number of years. Not because we say yes without thinking, but because we have confidence in our team, our machinery and our network to take on unusual jobs and find a way forward.

Respect & Reinstatement

Respect is a vital part of our process.Coming from an agricultural background, we know how to care for the land we work on. We understand how to work with landowners, estates, councils and location teams so that everyone stays happy and production can keep rolling. At the end of the job, we always see the work through until the site is clean, safe and back to its original shape. Once we’re done, you’d never know we’d been there.
